IND Requirements for host family

A host family has 2 or more members with Dutch nationality, or a valid residence permit for the Netherlands.
A host family meets the income requirements at least equal to 150% of the gross minimal wage.
You are not related as a family member to the au pair. Related means: parents, children, brothers and sisters, grandfathers and grandmothers, grandchildren, uncles and aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews, great grandparents, and great grandchildren.
Make a schedule for all 7 days of the week and sign this schedule daily.
The schedule must at least include:
- • how many of hours of light housekeeping tasks the au pair is going to do
- • which 2 days of the week the au pair is off
- • who does light housekeeping tasks besides the au pair: this person’s name must be given

Additionally, the host family must provide the au pair with board and lodging.

a private bedroom equipped with a door, window, heating, lighting, a bed, pillow, blankets, a desk/table with a chair, a wardrobe, a television with Netflix or streaming access and access to internet
provide meals for the au pair, either by including them in family meals or providing separate meals as agreed upon

Process For Host Families

1Research and select an au pair program

Start by researching different au pairs and countries. Consider factors such as culture and compatibility with your family’s needs.

2Meet program requirements

Familiarize yourself with the requirements set by the au pair program. This may include age restrictions, background checks, and financial obligations

3Complete the application

Fill out the application form provided by Icon Au Pair agency. This typically includes providing information about your family, household, and childcare needs

4Interview and match

Once your application is accepted, you will have the opportunity to interview potential au pairs as provided by Icon Au Pair agency. This allows you to assess their qualifications, experience, and compatibility with your family. Select an au pair who you believe will be a good fit for your family’s needs. Generally, it takes 1-2 months to match between host family and Au Pair.

5Legal and contractual obligations

Work with Icon Au Pair agency to complete any necessary legal and contractual obligations. This includes signing an agreement, weekly schedule, arranging for insurance coverage, and obtaining necessary visas or permits. Generally, it takes 2-3 months to complete all necessary documentation.

6Prepare for arrival

Coordinate with the au pair regarding their arrival date and make necessary arrangements for their accommodation, meals, and orientation to your family’s routines and expectations

7Provide support and guidance

Once the au pair arrives, provide them with the necessary support and guidance to help them settle into their role within your family. This may include introducing them to family members, explaining household rules, and discussing childcare responsibilities.
