IND Requirements for Au Pair

You are at least 18 and no more than 25 years old at the time of the application.
You are unmarried.
You do not have any (foster) children.
You have not had a residence permit for exchange in the Netherlands before.
You are going to live with a host family which is registered in the Personal Records Database (BRP). You will also be registered at that address.
You have not worked for the host family before, in the Netherlands or abroad.
You are not related as a family member to the host family. Related means: parents, children, brothers and sisters, grandfathers and grandmothers, grandchildren, uncles and aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews, great grandparents and great grandchildren.

Additionally having some experience or skills in caring for children can increase the chances of being selected as an au pair. Au pairs may need to provide a medical certificate or undergo a health examination to ensure they are physically and mentally fit to fulfill their responsibilities. Au pairs may be required to undergo background checks, including criminal record checks, to ensure the safety and well-being of the host family and children.

The maximum stay is one year. The majority of families prefer to have an au pair for 9 - 12 months.

Process For Au Pair

1. Meet program requirements

nsure that you meet the program’s eligibility criteria, which may include age restrictions, language proficiency, educational background, and experience with childcare.

2. Complete the application form

Fill out the application form provided by Icon Au Pair agency. This form usually requires personal information, educational background, childcare experience, and references.

3. Submit required documents

Gather and submit the necessary documents, which may include a resume, video introduction, medical certificate, criminal background check, and references from previous employers or childcare experience.

4. Attend interviews

Participate in interviews conducted by Icon Au Pair agency. These interviews may be conducted in person, over the phone, or via video call. They are typically used to assess your suitability for the program and to match you with a suitable host family.

5. Match with a host family

Once you have successfully completed the application and interview process, the program will work to match you with a host family that aligns with your preferences and their requirements. Generally, it takes 1-2 months to match between host family and Au Pair.

6. Visa and travel arrangements

If necessary, you will need to apply for the appropriate visa or work permit to legally work as an au pair in the host country. The program or agency can guide you through this process. Generally, it takes 2-3 months to complete all necessary documentation.

7. Pre-departure orientation

Attend any pre-departure orientations or training sessions provided by the program to prepare you for your au pair experience.
